Make herbal medicines in a well-stocked apothecary, surrounded by lush herb gardens, and in the fellowship of other students. This environment fosters creativity and learning, allowing everyone to share their knowledge and experiences in the fascinating world of herbalism.
Spring Apothecary
To honor the arrival of spring and nurture our bodies during this vital renewal, we will delve into the world of vibrant fresh herbs. Participants will learn how to process these herbs, crafting a diverse range of remedies. Our focus will be on addressing seasonal allergies, supporting liver and kidney health, promoting the body’s natural cleansing processes, enhancing nutrition, and replenishing essential minerals. Additionally, we will explore effective solutions for wound care, soothing bug bites, and implementing herbal first aid.
Summer Apothecary
While the richness of summer brings abundance, it can also lead to feelings of overwhelm. Participants will have the opportunity to work with adaptogens and nervous system supports that promote restful sleep, provide comfort during times of grief and overwhelm, and enhance both mental and emotional resilience. Additionally, we will delve into natural skincare solutions designed to protect against sun and heat exposure, ensuring you can fully embrace the summer season with ease and vitality.
Autumn Apothecary
As daylight wanes and temperatures decrease, the rich array of Autumn's harvest of herbs, fruits, and roots offers vital support for our immune system, enhances digestion, and encourages heart health. We will tap into the potent qualities of these seasonal botanicals to create a well-rounded medicine shelf, filled with remedies designed to boost immune resilience and foster overall wellness as we navigate the winter months, marked by festive gatherings, indulgent meals, and seasonal illnesses.
The ancient practice of using common, local seasonal plants is deeply embedded at the heart of the wise woman tradition. Through this valuable knowledge, we will learn to look closely at the diverse array of herbs growing right at our feet and in the branches overhead. These remarkable plants, which we come to know as cherished friends, can become our closest allies in the journey towards finding true wellbeing and harmony in our lives.
The core value of kitchen herbalism lies in developing a deep, intimate understanding of common “weedy” herbs, learning to skillfully incorporate them into a diverse array of remedies. This approach emphasizes mastery in deepening relationships with a handful of herbs rather than relying on simplistic “this for that” methodologies in herbal practice.
